Permanent wolf defence fence

Permanent fences are particularly effective simply because of their permanent physical presence - however, they cannot always be realised due to external factors. They are a little more complex to set up than the mobile version.

However, already existing permanent fence systems can easily be upgraded to wolf-proof with a few modifications.

Please note:
  • Select the strongest possible electric fence (min. 2 joules output energy) and install it with the best possible earthing (observe the recommended minimum number of earth rods adapted to the ground conditions)
  • Install highly conductive, visible conductor material 3 (e.g. Premium WildHog stranded wire with copper and INOX conductors) in at least 5 rows (the resistance of the conductor material should be less than 0.5 Ohm/metre)
  • Place the conductor material at the following heights: approx. 20 / 40 / 60 / 90 / 120 cm
  • DO NOT knot! When connecting the strand ends or at the gate, use special strand and quick connectors instead
  • Take into account the maximum ground clearance (approx. 20 cm)
  • It is essential to remove grass and shrubbery regularly - there must be no drainage
  • Pile spacing is approx. 4 m
  • OctoWood wooden posts  1 or recycled posts 2 should be used, with a minimum height of 125 cm above the ground
  • In the corners and, if necessary, at the gate, we recommend wooden posts  1
In the illustration, only wooden posts in the corners and gates are shown as examples. In addition, there are ring insulators in the corners and gate insulators in the gate - for wooden posts with wooden threads 5 + 6.

Warning signs 7 must be placed at regular intervals along public paths.

The gate itself is most easily built with the AKO Gate Spring Kit  4 (not suitable for horses). It is important that the connection of the electric wire on the right and left of the two gate posts to the Gate Insulator is made using Quick rope/poly wire connectors 9. This ensures a continuous electrification at the gate. Strand ends must not be knotted, but must be connected by means of special connector 10 "AKO-LitzClip" . With this fence system, too, the electric strands must always be well tensioned and connected parallel to each other near the unit and at least at the furthest point 11. Further Fence Connection Cables  are recommended.
Tip:
We generally recommend that you cut our Herd Protection Band 8 into several pieces - approx. 50 to 100 cm - and attach them to the top of the stakes or the topmost strand. The fluttering of the tape in the wind will help you to ward off the wolves more effectively.

When planning (semi-) permanent fences - especially with regard to the total height and spacing of the ladder materials - it is essential to take into account the needs of the animals to be herded! Especially with horses, for example, the additional strands pulled to ward off wolves can pose a risk of injury. Therefore, there should be a distance of at least 30 cm between the ladder material on the horse side and the wolf-repellent ladder material (e.g. distance insulators) - both sides of the fence must also be operated with the same and sufficiently powerful device.
