How to protect your horse from danger
Electric fences not only keep your stock to be herded in the area where they should stay - but they also protect against outside intruders! So not only should the fence be planned with regard to the horses to be herded, but also for outside dangers.
Horses are curious by nature and at the same time flight animals, they bring with them a deeply rooted urge to move - at the same time they learn very quickly and usually have a relatively fine coat, which makes them sensitive to influences of any kind. Horses understand the principle of an electric fence very quickly - but must be able to see it very well in order to respect it. Electric fences with 40mm wide strip as conductor material offer the optimum in safety here, but are at the same time susceptible to wind and thus require a lot of maintenance for the animal owner.
Curious horses use fence components for pushing or nibbling, which is why the fence construction materials must be fundamentally non-toxic and robust for the animals, but at the same time without any sharp corners or edges.
Visibility and appropriate impact strength is essential for all fences. To repel intruders, a second adequate fence line may need to be drawn to match the intruder to be repelled. Wild animals in particular often have a robust coat or have not yet experienced the deterrent effect of electric fences and therefore try to overcome the fence.
